New Year's Eve, which is on December 31, is the last day of the year in
the United States. It is a major social observance and many parties are
held, particularly in the evening.
In both the Gregorian calendar, currently used in the United States,
and the Julian calendar, which was used until 1752 in the British
colonies, the last day of the year is December 31. In Europe, the
mid-winter period was traditionally associated with feasting and
parties. In the early years of the American colonies and within the
United States, this type of celebration was often frowned upon,
particularly by religious communities.
Around the start of the 1900s, New Year's Eve celebrations in America
started to appear. The first Ball drop in Times Square was held in
1907. Around the same time, special events to welcome the New Year
started to be organized on January 1.
A brand new year means a fresh new start, and it's a good time to
reflect on what you've accomplished in the last year, and what you hope
to do in the New Year. To celebrate New Year's Eve, you could decorate the place where you'll
be spending your time; you could invite your loved ones for a meal; or
even take a trip to some place you've always wanted to go. Make hotel reservations as early as possible.
Many dining establishments offer fixed menus and champagne specials
to encourage the celebration. Again, make reservations early as many
popular restaurants fill up quickly. Enjoy all of the excitement of the countdown, noisemakers, and balloon drop without keeping young one’s up past their bedtimes.
Just forget about how stressful or how hectic the year that's about to be over with was and welcome the new year with an open heart, new wishes and new hopes. All you need is enthusiasm, determination and a will to set and accomplish new goals and make it one of the most memorable years to come.
Happy New Year!!!!
